Our Mission & The Importance of Civil Legal Aid
Community Legal Services is a non-profit law firm committed to increasing fairness in the civil justice system by advocating, litigating, and educating on behalf of Arizona’s most underserved communities. Civil legal aid helps ensure fairness for all in the justice system, regardless of how much money you have. It provides access to legal help for people to protect their livelihoods, their health, and their families.
Access to Justice for All
Civil legal aid connects Americans with a range of services including legal assistance and representation, self-help centers and other court-based services, free legal clinics and pro-bono assistance, and access to web-based information and forms that help guide them through complicated legal proceedings. CLS works to make our services accessible to all. In addition to making our services available to people with disabilities, we also provide translators for all languages.
CLS helps people protect their consumer rights regarding purchases, income, property, contracts, loans and debts.
CLS supports the safety and wellbeing of the family through the legal process, focusing on victims of domestic violence and children at risk.
CLS helps ensure safe job conditions, unemployment insurance, wages earned and freedom from discrimination.
CLS is dedicated to ensuring legal access and protecting the rights of agricultural workers throughout Arizona.
CLS helps people obtain and preserve necessities of life including AHCCCS Healthcare coverage, Social Security disability benefits, Nutrition Assistance and Cash Assistance.
Whether you rent or own, CLS helps with healthy and safe living conditions and preserving housing.
You may qualify to set aside your conviction and restore your civil rights.
Through a grant from the IRS, our Tax Program helps clients who have IRS controversies.
At a CLS legal kiosk you can:

- Find info about your legal problem
- Find legal help and forms
- Learn about your rights
- Print and scan documents
Individuals Served by Community Legal Services
Civil legal aid provides: Easy-to-understand forms, including online forms, that people can use in civil legal proceedings; Legal assistance, including legal self-help centers, so people can know their rights; and Legal representation to those who cannot afford it—because justice should not depend on how much money you have.

Take a peek into Community Legal Services Prescott Office, where we serve our Yavapai county community!
⚖️The Prescott office, in conjunction with the Yavapai County and Verde Valley Bar Associations, host three free legal advice clinics every year in June. The events are held in Cottonwood, Prescott and Prescott Valley.
⚖️The office also participates in annual Veteran stand down events as well as community resource fairs at the Prescott and Verde campuses of Yavapai College.
⚖️Our office is conveniently located 2 blocks west of the courthouse plaza. We are open to the public from 9am-5pm daily and complete application interviews telephonically by appointment or an applicant may call the Central Phoenix office intake line (602) 258-3434 between the hours of 9am-2pm, Monday through Friday to apply by phone.

A major step forward for survivor and child safety in Arizona.
CLS Managing Attorney Patricia Madsen joined Governor Katie Hobbs for the ceremonial signing of The Alec and Lydia Act, strengthening protections for survivors of domestic violence and their children in family court.
Patricia played a key role in developing and advancing the legislation, providing legal expertise throughout the process.
The Act also recognizes coercive control as a form of domestic violence in family law- helping prioritize the safety and well-being of children and survivors.
